Fanny Crosby was sitting with several family members and
friends and they were talking about God's nearness and rich
blessings. Suddenly words began to flow from Fanny Crosby
heart and mind and she shared them right then and there.
The verses came first and then the chorus. They were in the
home of the composer,William Donane, who went to the piano
and wrote the music.

Civilla Martin was preaching a revival when his wife became ill.
He started to cancel the evening service on Sunday but his son
told him, "Go on, God will take care of mommy". That evening
several people were saved in the service and when he returned
home he found his wife feeling much better and writing the
words to this song I will sing. Rev. Martin went to the piano
and wrote the music,
